I woke up to a no hot water situation and Chris was able to come over first thing before I left for work. He quickly diagnosed the issue to be a broken circuit breaker (figuring out that my hot water system was actually totally fine), and replaced it then and there. Really prompt service, and great value. Would absolutely recommend and will have Chris back if anything else breaks in my old house!

We’ve had smoke alarms of various types as long as we can remember.A recent uncertainty as to the effectiveness of them when they were needed started to worry us. We decided it was time to move to hard wired alarms. We did quite a bit of homework and this led us to Smoke Alarm Installations and Chris Franich.Chris arrived at the agreed time to give us some advice and quickly demonstrated his professionalism and knowledge in a quiet reassuring manner. It didn’t take long for us to decide to go with his recommendation. We also asked him to install a heat alarm in the garage for extra cover. This is tied to the smoke alarms throughout the house and as with the other alarms they are all triggered if something is detected.Our experience when Chris installed the alarms is very similar to other reviews here. He arrived on time and did everything he promised efficiently and without fuss. Honest, Reliable & Backed By A 10 Year Warranty
Our smoke alarms are backed by a full 10 year warranty which includes labour costs. This means even emergency callouts are covered under this warranty!
Pay once and once only. We have done extensive data logging on the power supply to domestic homes in our region and acutely understand the issues this can cause smoke alarms. This is extremely important to think about considering most homes are going from 1 alarm to 5-6 alarms.
We have done numerous replacements on other brands of smoke alarms due to their inability to prevent this nuisance alarm from happening. We may be slightly more expensive initially than other companies but we definitely work out to be the most reliable and affordable in the long run.
Brisbane Homeowners & Landlords Smoke Alarm FAQ
Where should I install my smoke alarm?
Smoke alarms should be installed by an experienced professional to ensure it is done correctly and everything is in working order. In terms of location, smoke alarms should be placed between 500mm and 1500mm from the highest point of the house. It is best to avoid placing them near windows as a draft could affect the sensitivity of the alarm. We also avoid dead air space as this can prevent smoke from reaching the sensor. To comply with QLD smoke alarm legislation, they must also be installed between each bedroom and the rest of the home and on each level if multi-story.
Why does my professionally installed smoke alarm go off for no reason?
We replace a great deal of other smoke alarm brands each week with ours because our smoke alarms do not have this issue. Energex will send a ripple frequency 1050Hz down the lines to turn on your off peak hot water, street lights, pools etc. This is what pulls in the relay to feed power through to these items. The frequency usually lasts around 20 seconds. Sound familiar? Poor quality smoke alarms can go off during this time as they cannot handle any fluctuation in frequency – even the major brand smoke alarms! Now that homeowners are moving from 1 smoke alarm to 5 or 6 to meet the new QLD smoke alarm legislation, this can become a real issue. Our smoke alarms have a slight delay where the voltage has to build to a certain level before it sets off the other alarms, which means that the alarm is not affected by the frequency.
What is a "nuisance alarm" and are they an issue?
If your smoke alarm is going off at 3am or at random intervals, it can be really frustrating. Sometimes homeowners even dismantle/disable their smoke alarms out of frustration. We do not recommend doing this as it puts your life (and anyone else at your property) at risk if there is a fire emergency. The most likely reason for nuisance alarms is high humidity, steam or vapour, dust, or insects. It is best to get your smoke alarm checked by a professional smoke alarm installer if you are experiencing nuisance alarms.
Why does my installed smoke alarm chirp/beep?
If you are hearing intermittent beeping or chirping from your installed smoke alarm, it is likely that your battery needs to be changed. If you have recently changed the battery, however, there are a few reasons why it could be chirping:
- Leftover battery pull-tab
- Temperature changes
- Loose battery
- Close proximity to bathroom or kitchen (steam or cooking smoke)
- Processor needs to be cleared of errors by resetting the smoke alarm
- The smoke alarm needs to be replaced
How long do new batteries last in a professionally installed smoke alarm?
Depending on the kind of battery in your smoke alarm, you should replace the batteries every 12 months. If your smoke alarm has a lithium battery, however, you cannot change it as it is built into the unit. Smoke alarm units need to be replaced every 10 years. What does it mean when there is no green light on my installed smoke alarm?
The green light on your smoke alarm indicates that the AC power is connected and the smoke alarm is operational. If it goes out, it means the AC power has been interrupted or disconnected, in which case the circuit breaker and wiring should be checked by a professional.
